We enjoy open communication with our staff, clients and their representatives. The staff are encouraged to communicate any updates or concerns regarding care of their clients

Help on the Way currently has a staff of twenty. This includes an two RN’s, Registered Care Attendants, activity aides, homemakers and housekeepers, most of which have had a broad base of experience and a keen interest with working with the elderly and infirm. We also encourage our staff to seek programs to upgrade their skills levels. Our positions are on-call, which overall works well for our staff. We endeavour to build a client base for our staff members to allow for continuity of care and satisfaction for both
client and staff. Our employees live from Langdale to Garden Bay and we try to match clients with qualified staff closest to their locations to promote a sense of community.

All RCA’s hold valid certificates and all employees are screened, reference and criminal record checked. Our staff is covered by insurance to provide the extra measure of safety for our clients. They are also required to sign an agreement of confidentiality and follow strict procedure guidelines as outlined in our Employee Manual.

Staff is grouped by training and experience:

  • Housekeepers provide cleaning only.
  • Registered Care Attendants provide personal care, medication supervision, respite and palliative care (Level I and II, where family members are involved).
  • Activity Aides assist mentally and physically challenged individuals.
  • Companion Care provides caring visitors for those who need more social contact.

Help on the Way has a co-operative relationship with Home Care Services our local government agency under the umbrella of Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, and are often involved with the same cases. Both offices work in conjunction with each other to integrate services into a schedule suitable for the client. VCH’s Long Term Care requests our services as well as ICBC, Department of Veteran’s Affairs and Worker’s Compensation Board.
